Megamela butterfly caterpillars have a palette of deep pinks with contrasting bright turquoise scales and iridescent skin. Males are distinguished by patterns on their necks and thick, soft horns. Females have a jagged beak, a silky sheen to their bodies, and sharp spikes on their heads.

The Marshmallow King and Queen have lived in El-Balyama since time immemorial. They are so ancient that mentions of them can be found among texts and drawings on the walls of the tomb of the very first Elbalyamian nomarch.

They live in different nomes, the King in the Waji nome and the Queen in the Nitocris nome. They are the last representatives of their species that have survived to the present day, but they cannot stand each other, and every single attempt to force the caterpillars into forming a pair ended in disaster. They even say that one of their meetings cost the city a temple, destroyed in the heat of a fierce fight between giants.

They are considered a curiosity in El-Balyama. They are also intelligent and unaggressive towards sahash and people.

It is noteworthy that their silhouettes and pink-blue palette became a part of house style in the famous Divorce Palace.
